Match Report for Sunday 22nd March 2009
Leven AFC V’s Trimdon United Juniors FC
Result:Leven AFC 2 Trimdon 4
Trimdon Scorers: Matthew Grimley 3, Daniel Lowe 1 Trimdon Man of the Match: Matthew Grimley for a solid striking performance
Trimdon came in to this match looking to avenge an earlier 2 0 home defeat by Leven AFC in which the Trimdon team let themselves down by being drawn into a physical battle rather than concentrating on their football.
Leven elected to play with the wind at their backs and looked to have made the right decision when they found themselves two nil up after 15 minuted following two long ball punts up field which were not dealt with by the Trimdon defence and goal keeper allowing the center forward to score with two good finishes.
Once again the match was a physical encounter with Leven looking to intimidate the Trimdon players; however to their credit the Trimdon players did not react nor did they panic at being two goals down and they soon started to dominate play.
Trimdon were unlucky not to equalise when first Adam Ward had a penalty excellently saved by the Leven keeper and then Matthew Grimley twice hit the woodwork. Trimdon’s better play was finally rewarded when Daniel Lowe excellently chipped in from an acute angle following a flowing move through the Trimdon midfield.
Half Time Leven AFC 2 Trimdon 1
With the wind at their backs in the second half Trimdon were confident of being able to over turn the half time deficit and almost equalised directly from the kick off when Callum Young sent in a shot from his own half which the Leven Keeper pushed over for a corner. Trimdon dominated play and the Leven side started to show their frustrations with three players being shown Yellow Cards by the referee.
Trimdon however were finding it frustratingly difficult in front of gaol with some excellent goal keeping them out until midway through the half when Matthew Grimley hit a volley into the net from inside the box following an Adam Ward corner.
In an almost identical finish Grimley got his second of the match from a Craig Holden cross when he volleyed in from the edge of the box to give Trimdon the lead.
With about ten minutes left Matthew Grimley completed his hat trick with another good strike to seal an impressive away win for Trimdon.
Leven had a player sent off in the final few minutes.
