Match Report for Sunday 19th October 2008.

Trimdon United Juniors FC V’s South Shields Simonside U17’s FC

Result:  Trimdon 2 South Shields 3

Trimdon Scorers:   M Grimley and A Croft
Trimdon Man of the Match:    Matthew Grimley – awarded for early goal and constant threat to South Shields defence and goal keeper

The match was played in a strong wind but the players from each team did not allow this to spoil the game with some very good football being played by both teams. South Shields played with the wind at their backs in the first half.

Trimdon got of to a superb start when after a couple of passes from the kick off center forward Matthew Grimley ran onto a through ball to score in the 1st minute of the game; pushing the ball past the South Shields keeper from just inside the box.

The game was then played in the South Shields half for the next 20 minutes with their keeper and defence performing very well to stop the Trimdon attacks from building on the early goal.

South Shields gradually got on top and scored an equaliser with a lob from outside of the box which deceived the Trimdon keeper and dropped into the net.

The next ten minutes was constant South Shields Pressure resulting in a second goal when the Trimdon keeper spilled a strong cross / shot into his own net.

South Shields continued to attack upto half time with the Trimdon keeper, Ryan Johnson, making a couple of excellent saves to amend for his earlier mistake.

Half Time:    Trimdon 1 South Shields 2

The second half saw Trimdon with the wind at their backs and they spent most of the half in the South Shields half of the pitch and but for some excellent goalkeeping and strong defence from the South Shields team would surely have equalised before the visitors broke away and scored a third goal following a mix up in the Trimdon defence which saw goalkeeper and center back collide with the ball breaking to the south shields center forward who calmly put the ball in the back of the net with about ten minutes remaining.

Trimdon immediately went back on the attack and reduced the deficit in the last minute when Adam Croft dribbled in from the left to score what ended up being a late consolation goal.

Final score Trimdon 2 South Shields 3

Good Luck to South Shields in the next round
