Playing one of our favourite opponents today and we always have a good match against Bishop (oops maybe I shouldn’t have said that)
Game starts evenly with great breaks from both sides and it’s Shaun Swan who has the first effort on goal after 2 minutes just pushed out wide, but its knocked back in smartly for Sam to have a header which sailed over the bar – unlucky. Bishop’s turn next and they have a powerful effort from 20 yards punched over the bar by Scotty – a great save. 10 minutes of very balanced play and another effort from Bishop is shepherded out for a corner by Lanky with a strong tackle. The game is close for most of the half with no-one from Trimdon really getting a sniff on goal while Bishop have a few efforts but nothing to worry about – it’s like this until 25 minutes in and from a corner the ball is scrambled into our net for them to go in front with a very untidy goal. Two more this half, both from corners follow and both were goal mouth scrambles but they go in at half time 3 – 0 up. It doesn’t feel like they deserve to be in front but it’s goals that count.
Second half and Trimdon couldn’t pull anything from the game with Bishop now full of confidence just driving forward constantly and they put away a hatful of goals – one of which was a ‘match of the day’ quality long range strike. A consolation penalty from Sam in the dying minutes but truth is we had our poorest game of the season today against a team we were at least as good as last season (if not better). Looking on the bright side it can only get better.
Tom Barker had his best game to-date and got MOM from their coach, Josh worked hard and the lads all kept going in the second half but reports MOM goes to Captain Tom Lawson who worked his socks off and made a difference when moved into midfield late in second half.
