TRIMDON UNITED JUNIORS SEASON 2008/09 Trimdon u 14 V Stokesley 18 /01 / 09
Trimdon welcome Stokesley to the muddy cold charms of a heavy pitch on a cold day with a very strong wind biting at the bones. Even though we beat these lads 8 –1 last time out we aren’t as confident as we should be after a run of poor games – lets just hope we can turn it around. Immediately from kick off a Stokesley lad powers through on goal and Shaun, standing in as temp goalkeeper, has to race out to clear. 2 minutes later Tom Lawson pushes the ball through to Sam who shoots but it’s deflected out for a corner – both sides showing early willing. The game Stokesley team came with only 10 men and to their credit are playing decent football and in this half they make use of the wind advantage to mount some decent attacks. 10 minutes in and Jack Fannan picks up the ball in his own half, powers past 3 then shoots only just wide – great effort. Its still pretty even stuff though until a Stokesley lad pops a good wind assisted effort into the net to take them into a not undeserved lead. There’s more hard work from Jack in this half, working back to help his defence and Luke Casson is also having a good game out on the right wing, tackling hard and feeding some useful looking balls into the centre circle. First half ends 1 – 0 to Stokesley.
Second half is almost a different game and with the wind at their backs Trimdon are constantly in the Stokesley danger area. It’s only a matter of time but the Stokesley lads hold out until 20 minutes from the end when from a good cross Sam Noble pops one in with his head – a couple of low flying pigs make a fly past to mark this one off occasion – but unlikely as a Sam header is – it takes us level and Trimdon don’t look back. A great 25 yard goal from Jack a couple of minutes later takes us into the lead and when Sam puts Luke C through 5 minutes later he turns his man, and coolly slides it in to go 3 – 1 up – it all looks over for Stokesley. These lads are battlers though and despite losing their keeper to injury they forge forward right until the last minute and are unlucky not to pull at least one goal back. Trimdon are on top though and in the last minute a good solo goal from a 30 yard run makes the final score 4 – 1.
This was a decent win against side that battled hard from minute one to final whistle and even with depleted numbers they never gave an inch – a real credit to their team. Man of match is a difficult one – starting at the back –
Shaun was an excellent stand in keeper – very sharp and distributed well
Tom Barker / Loiue / Danny / Lee – at the back all solid Tom Lawson / Ryan Willis / Josh / Luke Casson – mid field all worked hard - Luke’s goal was a lovely worked effort
Sam worked hard and Jack Fannan once again put a lot of effort in, tracking back and driving forward and he also scored a great goal – so MOM goes to Jack Fannan again
