TRIMDON UNITED JUNIORS SEASON 2008/09 Trimdon United u14 v Barnard Castle 09/01/09
A biting cold day and Trimdon in need of a win today to lift us out of the doldrums from recent defeats and as we are playing the team at the bottom of the league we expect to get that win. Things start brightly enough and a Sam corner in the first minute is headed goalward by Ryan but it’s knocked back outfield only for Tom Lawson to thump it back into Barny’s 18yd box immediately but the danger is cleared. A scrappy game develops and for most of the first half Trimdom attack, attack, attack without reward. Some good distribution from the stand in keeper Adam puts Sam through on goal a couple of times but we can’t convert and the ball runs to safety. 20 minutes into the half and great link up between Ryan and Luke Casson puts Shaun Swan through on goal but he drives the ball into the side netting. In the last couple of minutes of the half Luke works hard to get the ball out to Sam, Sam crosses and Ryan powers a shot just over the bar. In the dying seconds Josh picks up the ball 20 yards out and shoots for his second goal in consecutive games – he’s looking sharp. Second half and on 5 mins Jack Fannan does a some smart stuff to shake off a couple of players and gets the ball to Sam who shoots wide. 7 minutes in and with the wind behind him a barny lads fires in a good goal from 25 yards to equalise. Immediately Josh and Jack combine to push the ball to Sam who flies at the ball but the keeper is off his line quickly and collects. More combinations between Josh and Jack to get a shot just float by the post seconds later and we are beginning to think it isn’t going to be Trimdon’s day. The Trimdon lads seem uncoordinated and are not getting any passes away – it seems to many are panicking with the ball and just thumping it away instead of getting a name on it. Barney capitalise on this and on 15 minutes they take the lead. Two more goals follow and a most unlikely sounding score of 4 – 1 to Barney concludes the match.
Man of match from their coach was Thomas Barker Man of match from report was tight between Josh and Jack Fannan who both worked hard but Josh shades it with his good goal.
