TRIMDON UNITED JUNIORS SEASON 2008/09
Trimdon u 14   V   Great Ayton  04/01/09

A quick return leg against a sharp Ayton side who put 4 past us last time out, we are at home today though, and with a couple of extra players we are hopeful of a better match.
Two minutes into the match and Ayton put a good cross into the box which is nodded in for an early lead and they go 1 up. But it isn’t the one-way traffic of the previous match and Trimdon start to hold their own and for the next 10 minutes or so it looks an even game. A couple of two footed tackles from the ayton boys get punished on 12 minutes and a 30 yard free kick from Sam has to be saved by their keeper. After 20 minutes Lanky shows his mettle with a surging run past 2 then slides the ball to Sam who shoots again but it’s knocked out for a corner. It’s still anyone’s match even though the Ayton lads press hard all half and they have a great effort well saved by Jack Cairns on 27 minutes. Little Danny is doing a great job in defence against a sharp looking number 8 who is ranging in down the left side, but he isn’t alone – all the defenders and mid field are working hard to keep this attacking team at bay.
Second half and 5 minutes in their No 8 is at it again with a great break in on goal but Lanky tackles well in his own box and saves a certain goal. The tide has turned for Ayton though and they continue to attack – only a great goal line clearance from Danny prevents their second goal but the way it’s going it seems a matter of time before they add to their tally and from this clearance the ball is knocked back in to Trimdon’s goal for them to go 2 – 0 up. Fifteen minutes in and Trimdon attack in the form of Tom Lawson who does a great 1 , 2 with Sam and forges forward but from the subsequent clearance Ayton score on the break to make it 3. Two more goals from Ayton in the next 5 minutes makes the game redundant for Trimdon but the lads don’t give up and some tremendous work from Danny stifles their sprightly number 8 prompting their coach to replace him. In the last 5 minutes of the game Trimdon coach Steve Wood decides to shake it up a bit and he puts Luke C up front and between him, Josh and Tom Lawson some useful looking breaks start to a happen down the left with excellent passing play between the 3 of them. This is rewarded when from a Tom Lawson corner the ball is knocked to Luke who tees it up for Josh and he buries a well-taken consolation goal in the very last minute.
Man of the match from their coach was Jack Cairns in goal and he did make some important saves, getting off his line quickly on a number of occasions.
Lanky had a great game made some important tackles, Tom Lawson was consistant as ever but reporters MOM for this week was Danny who was sharp as a button and marked their best player off the park.
