Trimdon United Juniors FC Under 12’s

Match report from Sunday 19th April 2009

Trimdon Juniors FC Under 12s- 0 -- 3   Wolviston FC Under 12s

Trimdon welcomed Wolviston for a Teeside Juniors Alliance Division 5 game and what a game it was.  With goals in the 11th minute of the first half and 2nd and 12th minutes of the second half for the visitors, a 3-0 win looks as if this was all one sided which is far from how the game went.  Judging by the tired legs of the players leaving the pitch both teams had given their all in this end of season cracker.  Wolviston got the goals with the scorer having the uncanny knack of being in the right place at the right time to tap in 2 of the goals but Trimdon were full of attacking intent and but for some excellent goalkeeping the score could have been much closer.  Even when Trimdon beat the keeper on at least 3 occasions, a defender saw the danger and swept around behind the keeper to kick the ball off the line.  This was a tremendous football match that was a credit to both teams who slugged it out in a fair and sporting manner and I can’t remember a single intentional foul or bad tackle.  Well done both teams of players you are a credit to your coaches and for Trimdon this will be a fixture that will be highlighted as being one to look forward to in next seasons’ fixtures.  A pat on the back for everyone concerned with the match including the referee, who had a good game, keeping control without drama, missing very little and let the game flow wherever possible to the enjoyment off everyone, a very sound display of refereeing.

MAN OF THE MATCH - Antony Wicks Well deserved as he ran the midfield of the team with superb ball skills, great support play and teamwork, wonderful invention from a corner ball that nearly saw him bag a goal and when his defence were under pressure was a willing and able defender. A display of mid-field play that was close to perfect, a pleasure to watch and most appreciated by his coach.

MATCH BEST DEFENDER – Ashley Dunning. A great performance keeping probably the best attacker under control so much so that the coach moved his player to the other side of the attack.  He was close to 2 of the goals scored covering over from his full back position and only just being unable to get the tackle in.  Showed the way to his team by recognising the danger and covering around to pressurise an attacker all the way to goal twice, doing enough to put him off when he would have had an unopposed run on goal without these interventions.

End of season report:
Although finishing in a similar league position to last season this has been a very successful season with all players showing more physical fitness, improving technical abilities and a major improvement in communication and teamwork has been evident. The team have gained more points, conceding fewer goals in the season and gave two higher league teams an almighty scare in the cup competitions.  All this for a village team with only 15 players registered confirms that the boys can feel justifiably proud of their achievements over the season.  They are a great set of lads that we hope will come back and play for us again next season.
Thanks must also go to all the Trimdon United Juniors members and a special thanks to parents/helpers for their ongoing support to the team by helping with transport, nets, and all the other things that without which we would not have a team.
The last training session before the summer break will be on Friday 24/04/09 starting at 5.30pm.  Training will resume prior to the end of season tournaments and this date will be posted once confirmed.
