Trimdon United Juniors FC Under 12’s

Match report for Sunday 22nd March 2009

Trimdon United under 12s    v   Guisborough

Trimdon were the visitors on a sunny day with a blustery wind and a bone hard pitch with no grass on the goalmouth areas. The game kicked off and Trimdon were on the offensive but some poor finishing and determined defence saw the home team’s goal stay intact although at times it was hard to see how.  It was Guisborough who took the lead on 5 minutes when the ball was crossed beyond Trimdon’s back post it was returned and looked to be going over the bar out of play only for the wind to hold it up and drop it over the helpless keeper into the corner of the goal.  Trimdon were still having good chances but were unable to make them count and after 23 minutes following a horrible mistake the ball rolled to a Guisborough forward at the back post to tap into an empty goal for a 2-0 lead.  Trimdon got their reward for all their pressure in the 27th minute when Anthony Wicks played in Ashley Dunning on the edge of the penalty area who’s lobbed shot into the air just came down below bar height for a difficult goal when so many other much easier chances had been squandered.  The half ended at 2-1 for the home side.

Trimdon made changes to try and get something from the 2nd half but it was the home side who extended their lead after 2 minutes from a corner kick.  Guisborough extended their lead with a blatantly offside goal for 4-1 and a good headed goal from close in to finish the scoring at 5-1.  Apart from the 5 goals there were no other chances for Guisborough and on another day Trimdon could and should have scored at least 8. This is not to deny Guisborough their win because they defended for their lives, had the benefit of almost all refereeing decisions (who was poor overall but mainly for the visitors) and took every chance they created or were gifted.  Very well done lads.
