Trimdon United Juniors FC Under 12’s
Match Report from Sunday 22nd February 2009 Teeside Juniors Football Alliance League Division 5.
Middleton Rangers (under 12s) 8 v Trimdon Juniors Under 12s 2
Trimdon were the visitors to the top of the league in division 5 on a sunny day with a stiff breeze blowing down the pitch, but on a pitch that was a credit to the grounds-man after all the poor weather we have had. Middleton kicked off with the advantage of the wind and pitch slope but it was Trimdon who created the first chance when a great run and cross down the left wing by Anthony Wicks was almost turned in by Brad Storey in the first minute. This only served to get Middleton going and the Trimdon defence was caught cold in the second minute when they scored the first goal of the game. It was almost constant pressure by Middleton after this with only some good defending and some fine goalkeeping from Michael Edwards in the Trimdon goal, keeping the home side at bay. In the 8th minute Middleton extended their lead with a through ball to an offside attacker that was allowed to stand but it was a tight call that most referees would get wrong without the assistance of linesmen. The pressure intensified for the visitors and more good keeping was required to keep the score down to 2-0 but Trimdon were starting to come to terms with the wind and Middleton did not learn from Trimdon’s first minute chance when after 11 minutes Anthony Wicks went on another great solo run and this time his perfect cross was forced over the line by Brad Storey to reduce the deficit to 2-1. Middleton were again on target following a succession of corners when Trimdon’s keeper did well to parry a ball out only to find an unmarked Middleton player in the 6 yard box for an easy volley into the net for 3-1 which is how the game stayed until the half time. With nothing to lose the Trimdon team already missing 2 of its ever present defenders was reorganised again to try and use the breeze and pushed on their leading goal scorer Jamie Dalton from midfield where he had played so well, into attack where goals rather than containment was needed. The plan backfired when the Middleton lads using the ball cleverly passed their way around the pitch which had seen Trimdon’s long clearances fall short so many times in the firs half to score in the 2nd, 5th, 8thand 13th minutes and the only time Trimdon used the conditions was in the 23rd minute when a huge keeper kick out by Michael Edwards was pounced upon by Jamie Dalton in Middleton’s penalty area to squeeze the ball under the home keeper for 7-2. Middleton did reply with their 8th goal in the 29th minute to complete the scoring Well done to both sides for a sporting game played in the right spirit and a special mention for the referee who controlled the game well and got very little wrong and was consistent, a credit to how refereeing should be (the best so far this year and that is praise from the coach of the side that got beat) Trimdon with an under-strength team gave it a go but came up short on this occasion but continue to learn and improve a sentiment echoed by the opposition coach who commented that Trimdon were a different and much better team from the first game between the teams.
MAN and DEFENDER OF THE MATCH --ASHLEY DUNNING– an injury doubt before the game pressed into playing out of position in defence and gave it his all tackling, breaking up play and saving 3 sure goals on the line. Only coming off with 2 minutes to go following an unintended kick to his already injured ankle. An example to all of commitment to the cause and never give up attitude. Well done.
