Trimdon United Juniors FC Under 12’s
MATCH REPORT FOR SUNDAY 1ST FEBRUARY 2009
Trimdon United Juniors FC Under 12s—4 – 2—Richmond Town FC Under 12s
Richmond Town were the visitors welcomed for a 5th Division League game on a heavy, full sized pitch with a cold biting wind blowing diagonally across the pitch. The game kicked of with both sides obviously wanting a win and there were good chances going begging at both ends. Trimdon opened the scoring in the 16th minute when a through ball from Brad Storey was raced onto by Jamie Dalton, who looked suspiciously offside but did what Trimdon needed and drove the ball under the hopelessly exposed keeper. This spurred Richmond on and they were back level within 2 minutes when some good play down the centre created the opening for the visitor’s equaliser. The half continued with both sides pressing and creating chances but the half ended honours even at one all. Trimdon had the wind and slope of the pitch to their advantage in the second half but it was Richmond who took the lead after 3 minutes when a forward was allowed to dribble inside the penalty area and scored from close in for a 2-1 advantage. Trimdon heads stayed high however and following some good work down the left Ashley Dunning laid a ball square for team captain Joe Potts to take the ball infield and repeated his superb goal against Elementis with a 20 meter pile driver that the visitors keeper could only waive at as it whistled into the net for the best goal of the day and the equaliser after 5 minutes. The second Trimdon goal was the signal for both teams to go all out attack and but for some great goalkeeping by both keepers and solid defending by both teams the score line could have been in double figures. It was Trimdon who took the lead in the 25th minute however when some great forward play by Jamie Dalton ended with a great cross that was forced over the line by second half substitute Charlie McMillan for 3-1. With time running out and Richmond pressing Jamie Dalton again showed his value to the team with a superb dribble from the opposite side of the box and a measured cross directly onto the head of yet another second half substitute Christian Daniels who showed great calmness just to make sure of the header and the 3 points in the 27th minute. Both teams played well in truly cold conditions and should be congratulated for the game they put on.
MAN OF THE MATCH –THE TEAM - 14 players all playing their part in this victory. A battling gritty performance by one and all. The lessons are being learnt. Well done “the team”. We may have only moved up one place in the league table but it is the right direction and there will be more to come if this level of performance is repeated in every game. MATCH BEST DEFENDER- JOE LAWSON - Played out of position but was a rock at the back. Well done.
