Trimdon United Juniors FC Under 12’s

Match report from Sunday 18th January 2009

TRIMDON JUNIORS FC Under 12s- 1 -- 2   St. FRANCIS 2000 FC ( B ) Under 12s

Trimdon welcomed St. Francis to Trimdon on a sunny yet blustery day, with the pitch having to be cleared from surface water in one goalmouth, it was going to be a stamina sapping game on a heavy full sized pitch as the usual smaller pitch was waterlogged and unplayable.
The match kicked off with St Francis having the wind at their backs for this local derby, playing towards the drier end of the pitch and were making good use of the wind but Trimdon were showing all the signs of their recent good defensive displays and were more than capable of holding St Francis at bay and turning defence into meaningful attacks.  However on a full sized pitch with heavy ground into the wind it was always going to be difficult to score and some good last ditch defence and goalkeeping St Francis held out.  St Francis kept on probing the Trimdon defence and in the 7th minute got the breakthrough after a through ball cut through the Trimdon defence which got in a mix up trying to play the offside which was tight and presented the St Francis forward with a one on one with the Trimdon keeper and the first goal.  The match followed a similar pattern with both sides attacking and defending well but defences were winning the battles in the last third of the pitch where it mattered and the first half ended in a 1-0 scoreline to the visitors even though Trimdon had done enough to merit being level, at least, at the half time break.

The second half kicked off with Trimdon giving their all and going close again on several occasions until they got their reward form a great goal by Jamie Dalton who was played in on the left wing in his own half and ran the full distance of the half outsprinting the chasing St. Francis defenders to cut into goal and give their keeper no chance with a hard low drive into the bottom corner to level the score at 1-1.  From their it was all out attack by both teams looking for a winner and the game could have gone either way as both teams tired and more space appeared and after two Trimdon one on ones were saved by the St Francis keeper (my opposition man of the match) the visitors got lucky with a defensive clearance gone wrong that presented their forward with an easy run at the Trimdon keeper from the edge of the penalty area that he was not going to miss making a 2-1 scoreline in the 27th minute.  Trimdon tried to respond but a combination of fatigue and the fact that two stalewarts of the team, including the influential club captain, were missing and the one substitute available could not give a rest to all the tiring Trimdon players that had given their all and made their coaches proud, under trying conditions no more could have been asked and the Trimdon lads should hold their heads high, there will be another day with performances like this things are getting better, watch out Division 5 !!  Well done to all the lads for an entertaining game but mostly to the Trimdon lads who through necessity played out of their preferred positions, played well and deserving of high praise for their efforts and commitment.

MAN OF THE MATCH -  JAMIE DALTON.  Well deserved as he tried his heart out, scored a spectacular goal and kept calm under severe provocation that on  previous weeks may well have seen him retaliate. Well done shows maturity beyond your years.
MATCH BEST DEFENDER – JOSH CUDLIP.  Playing well at the heart of the defence and for good a mid field player has adapted to a new role for the good of the team. He marshalled his defence well, giving cover and a wise head when required.
