TRIMDON UNITED NEWSLETTER FIFTEEN January 13th 2008
Xmas break - then Redcar boy’s u13 versus Trimdon United U13.
During the Christmas break Trimdon under 13’s played 3 friendly matches: 1st against Bishop St Mary’s on the astro turf at Sedgefield – a hard fought, 4 all draw with great end to end football from both teams. Trimdon coming back in this one from 3 – 1 down to square the match. Ryan Willis took the honours as MOM with some great determined work in mid field and ranging runs through on goal, topped off with perhaps the best goal scored by a Trimdon man this season driving the ball home with an excellent keeper diving at full stretch forlornly into the bottom corner. 2nd and 3rd matches were against Darlington Mount Pleasant, both games being won quite easily by Trimdon – the second of which was very one sided with Trimdon all over the visiting Darlington side – Lets hope this a sign of what’s to come in our end of season mini competition against Mount Pleasant who are at present hanging on to OUR cup. MOM in these two games were Kieran Storey for dogged hard work and strong tackling in mid field then Luke Casson in the final match for solid defending and good distribution.
Now to Redcar – on a very windy day and against a side that had held us to a 4 all draw in our first game of the season. This game was always going to be a measure of how far we had come this season and we need to start making ground on the top teams to have a chance of promotion. We were not to be disappointed with what we learned. Redcar kick off the first half with the very strong wind at their backs and immediately Trimdon fire the ball up to Tom Lawson on the left who knocks on to Sam Noble and in turn then to Luke Walton for a shooting effort which just flew past right hand post. The ball gets knocked back and forwards from both teams until a good break from Redcar on five minutes is halted solidly by Jack Fannon and Lanky, who knocks it out for a corner. An excellent corner from Redcar is headed well into the net and Redcar go 1 up. That wasn’t in the script – so back to work Trimdon. Redcar have a free kick 10 minutes in but the Trimdon back four all step out like the old Arsenal defenders from the 80’s to leave the Redcar forwards off side – a trap that works well for the Trimdon team. Two minutes later and a free kick to Trimdon from the centre circle – Lanky thumps the ball up to the 18yard box where Kieran Storey coolly volleys the ball into the Redcar net – great goal from the busy midfielder. Another shot from Kieran 2 minutes later goes just wide and it is obvious by now that Trimdon are by far the better team – even against the wind the ball is always in the Redcar half. Some great breaks down the right side with Daz Humphries working hard. On 17 minutes another break down that side sees the ball centred to Luke Walton who buries it well. 2 – 1 to Trimdon. Not to be outdone –a few minutes later the break comes down the left side with hard work from Danny Williams and Tom Lawson once again ending with Luke Walton getting another goal – 3 – 1 to Trimdon. By now the Redcar team were arguing and complaining to the ref as they started to realise this wasn’t going to be their day. They also ran in a series of over zealous tackles with studs showing and the Trimdon players are bearing the marks of some bad tackling from the Redcar lads. The ref who otherwise had a good game could have given a little more protection to Trimdon when these incidents occurred. 25 minutes in and once again Danny Williams does some sterling defending on the left then takes the ball up field and puts Tom Lawson through on goal. Tom has all the time in the world to fire home another great Trimdon goal – the difference in class between the teams is just so obvious now. In the last minute of the first half, Redcar had a free kick which flew through the pack and somehow their forward got on the end of it but Scotty bravely dived at his feet and stole the ball from him – great keeping – hardly anything to do all half then springs into action like a cat to save a goal.
At half time its 4 -1 to Trimdon and with the wind now behind their backs it seems like we would be in for a few more goals but this wasn’t to be. One minute in and a powerful free kick from 35yards by Sam Noble sailed over the bar – just to much on the ball – unlucky Sam. Two minutes later the ever optimistic Sam hits another 35 yard screamer – this time just past the post. Sam, Tom Lawson and Luke Walton continue to work well together up front, creating chance after chance. 10 Minutes in another great run from Luke W is cleared by the Redcar keeper racing off his line. In the second half Trimdon didn’t really take advantage of the wind at their backs and although the game was played mainly in Redcar’s half we didn’t seem to be putting the chances away until 12 minutes in when some hard individual work from Daz who blitzed through a tough tackle followed the ball and buried it in the Redcar net from 18 yards – another great goal. 20 minutes in and a terrible tackle on Luke Casson goes unpunished by the ref and Redcar go on to shoot hard but Scotty is equal to the effort and saves well. A good break on the right side 3 minutes later by Luke C and yet another “stud’s up” tackle from the same Redcar player wipes him out again and yet again this goes unpunished by the ref. From the free kick big Sam wallops the ball from 25 yards out but didn’t have his usual power and the keeper collected. Another shot from Sam on 22 minutes flies across the front of the goal – still all Trimdon and no chance of Redcar getting into the game. The game ends with a more than well deserved 5 – 1 win to Trimdon who showed they were a class above the team that managed to hold us to a draw only a few months ago. Conditions were poor with a heavy pitch and howling wind but we still showed some great football and all the goals were Match of the day quality. Man of the match so hard to pick this week Good performances from the whole team – defenders top drawer stuff. Lanky – Danny, Luke and Jack all solid as rocks – Scotty superb Forwards all worked well for each other as a unit Midfield were great with good goals from Daz and Kieran
Daz came close but Kieran just edged MOM this week
