TRIMDON UNITED JUNIORS SEASON 2008/09
23rd November 2008

Great Ayton v Trimdon u 14’s

Away today on a cold and fresh afternoon with the bare bones of 11 men to call on and no reserves, Trimdon are keen to get some football after a 3 week layoff.
Ayton kick off and make their intentions clear very early with sharp attacking football right from the off and they aren’t afraid to have a pop from anywhere on the field. Only immense goal keeping from Tom  Lawson prevented 3 or 4 early long range and powerful shots from putting Ayton ahead. Its a hard contest against a good team but the defense across the back 4 of Lanky Clarke, Darren Humphries, Luke Casson and Danny Williams are earning their corn today with some superb defending and strong tackling. Trimdon work hard in the first half to keep Ayton at bay but it seems one way traffic and we can’t get the ball up to our forwards. Eventually Ayton’s pressure pays off and they break through to score what looks suspiciously like an offside goal but it was close, we can’t complain though as the ref is having a great game and has kept the flow going with sensible decisions and good advantage played every time. Deep into the last minute of the half Ayton score another with a massive strike which gave Tom no chance at all. 1st half ends 2 - 0.
Second half pretty much followed the pattern of the first with Ayton attacking and Trimdon unable to get the ball to the forwards for most of the time. 2 more goals for Ayton in this half gave them a good 4 - 0 win and only occasional flashes of brilliance from Trimdons lads throughout the game lends us hope that we can do much better.
Couple of good isolated runs and shots from Sam Noble and also from Jack Fannan in the second half gave a little hope but we weren’t at our best today.
Sounds a bit funny having been beaten 4 - 0 but the defense were excellent today and all Ayton’s  goals were from long range shots. Darren Humphries had a great game, taking no prisoners with some seriously strong challenges, Some big tackles from Lanky and Adam, Shaun and Ryan also worked their socks off in mid field without reward and the whole team never gave up, but for an excellent performance in goal, man of the match from their coach and from match report goes to Tom Lawson who saved some terrific shots from the opportunistic Ayton lads.
